A Tragic Day for Religious Freedom in Pakistan
The Pakistan International Minority Rights Commission (PIMRC) expresses its deep sorrow and concern following the devastating attacks on the Christian community in Jaranwala, Punjab. In one of the most significant incidents of religious violence in recent years, numerous churches, homes, and businesses belonging to Christian families were vandalized and set on fire after allegations of blasphemy triggered unrest in the area.
Families were forced to flee their homes as places of worship that had served local communities for generations were destroyed. The attacks left many innocent people displaced, traumatized, and uncertain about their future.
Standing With the Persecuted
PIMRC stands in solidarity with every individual and family affected by these tragic events. Every person, regardless of their faith or background, deserves the fundamental right to live in safety, worship freely, and be treated with dignity and respect.
The events in Jaranwala serve as a painful reminder that religious intolerance continues to threaten vulnerable minority communities. Protecting human rights and ensuring equal justice under the law remain essential responsibilities of every nation.
Calling for Justice and Accountability
PIMRC calls upon the relevant authorities to conduct a transparent investigation, hold those responsible accountable, and provide meaningful protection for vulnerable religious communities across Pakistan.
Justice must not only be delivered but also be seen to be delivered. Accountability is essential to restoring confidence among minority communities and preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.
Our Commitment
The Pakistan International Minority Rights Commission remains committed to advocating for persecuted Christians and other vulnerable minorities through international engagement, legal advocacy, leadership initiatives, humanitarian support, and public awareness.
Our mission is to amplify the voices of those who are often unheard and work alongside global partners to promote religious freedom, peace, and equal rights for all.
As we continue our work, we pray for healing, reconciliation, and lasting peace for the people of Jaranwala and for every community affected by religious persecution.
